Funniest thing said by Mike Mirabella during Scamper rehearsal last night: "Brendo, listening to your bass playing tonight was like watching an angel come out of a mermaid's vagina."

Now, on to more pressing issues. Tonight is the world premiere of the Red Sox-themed Farrelly Brothers movie Fever Pitch. Now, I'm not one to tell anyone else how to live their lives, but for the record - I will be boycotting this film.

Like many of you I'm sure, my life changed on October 27, 2004. As I watched the Red Sox celebrate their victory on the field at Busch in St. Louis, I felt the past and future meet and the anxieties of a lifetime melt away. I watched Pedro and Schilling and Manny and Lowe and Tek and Ortiz and Millar - guys who I felt like I'd spent a lifetime with over that summer - embrace and pour champagne over each other. Without a trace of irony, I can say it was one of the most important days of my life.

And then I saw Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore kissing for the cameras. On the field. On the fucking field!

I generally hate it when people mythologize sports and make athletes into something they're not. The "outrage" at steroid use in baseball is laughable. But still - having actors pretending to be happy on the field during a seminal moment in this city's life was a disgrace. I'm mad at the Farrellys, I'm mad at the Red Sox and I'm mad at Major League Baseball. So I won't be seeing their movie.

And Jimmy Fallon is a talent-free hack. Discuss.

I'll just say that I like the choice of the word "talent-free" instead of "talentless." Like it's a good thing.

Mike's quote was nothing before I added the mermaid.

dude, I was just going to email you about this. the previews for that piece of carp made me gag.

and I don't know why all the ladies I know go gaga for fallon. isn't extreme retardation sort of a turn-off? maybe that's just me.

you shouldn't just boycott. you should picket!

I didn't see it, but I heard TAXI was a work of genius. Did Fallon play the Latka or Reverend Jim role?

A farrelly brothers take on a script based on a Nick Hornby book? Hate to go against the flow, but I think that this movie is going to be enjoyable, especially as a Sox fan.

As for the sacredness of the moment, I don't think it's any worse than all the corporate sponsors and shit getting to be on the field. The win was what was important, not who was celebrating it.

Finally, that Fallon isn't too good. Neither is drew Barrymore, but I'm going to keep an open mind about this one

Counterintuitively, I actually like Drew Barrymore in the right movies. I like 50 FIRST DATES a lot.

And seeing Bill Mueller get hugged by Jimmy Fallon made my stomach turn way more than a corporate logo. I'm not a purist by any means, but that one bugged me.

I'm amazed that people even saw the details of who was celebrating on the field, and how, and with whom, after the win. I pretty much lost my mind, shrieking like a little girl, hyperventilating, and diving into the crowd off the pool table.

There's a decent one-pager about the story behind the on-field celebration in the current Improper. They didn't plan on doing it before they got to the game, borrowed Fox Sports cameras to do it, and if the series had gone one more game it wouldn't have happened.

I didn't see the Fallon-Barrymore thing at the time. I was on the floor in a puddle of goo. I saw it that night on the highlights, so I was nauseated in retrospect, I guess.
