Nights like these will be what saves rock and roll. Instead of a random sampling of Boston bands, Scamper booked this show full of friends of the Good Rock. From start to finish it lived up to the billing and kicked some serious tail. Nimmer started the night off with a wicked and wigged set full of fresh power pop rock - we've wanted to get together on stage with these guys for a while and it won't be the last time. Catapult followed with first-rate tight, significant rock and roll. Those three guys have enough juice for half a dozen. Scamper loves the Abbey and especially loves the new extra floorspace thanks to a recent stage expansion. They put that floorspace to good use by playing with absolutely mad antics punctuating the songs in ways even hardcore Scamper fans may not have seen. Some rarer fan favorites (Soon As You're Gone, Pink Lemonade) saw the light of day, and if the crowd was having half as much fun as the band this night then you can chalk that up as a colossal success. The Spark, the third Friend of Scamper of the night, was a perfect end to the evening - their terrific set was very chill and very powerful at the same time, and we've got to imagine the folks in the crowd went home happy. All in all, a very good night for Boston rock. Let's hope these bands team up again real, real soon. |
