The Scene affords you (Ralphio) a peek into what he (Nate) deems to be hip in the Boston and national rock scenes: foxy bands, dope tunes, trendy trends. Get with it.

Second Side of Surfer Rosa
Get this: there's now another Boston night scene with a trendy name that begins with P. That's right, PAPER has joined The Plan and The Pill, and this week it features our boys Harris. It all goes down on Thursday the 9th at Bill's Bar. It's an indie-hipster dance thing, and I'm a little confused as to why rock bands are now playing it, but what do I know? My dirty little secret is that I'm actually quite out of touch and have no business writing a "Scene" column.

On Friday the 11th, start early and often at the Lizard Lounge with Jed Parish (ex-Gravel Pit)
at the Soul Low show at 8pm, followed by the Candy Butchers (voice of The Oneders in That Thing You Do!) and Francine.

This weekend, the time-travelling (tiara-less) warriors who once beat us unmerciful and flipped our merch table are landing in Allston, and they're bringing treats. Fresh back from Europe, Campaign For Real-Time has spent their Rumble winnings on making a superlative new disc, and they've put together two nights (as is all the rage these days) of CD release hijinks at Great Scott. Saturday the 11th features Robby Roadsteamer and Ho-Ag, and Sunday the 12th brings Hooray For Earth and the Boston Typewriter Orchestra (who are exactly as advertised).

Thusrday the 16th is our big free WFNX/Phoenix show with OK Go and The Cinematics at the Avalon. Win tickets from WFNX or get on this here mailinglist, stat!

On the 17th, Cheap Trick and Soul Asylum are bringing it to that very same Avalon stage. Come say hi, ladies; I'm working the door.

Where the hell has Aloud been? I don't know. I did once run into Roy at the 7-eleven on Prospect St at 8:30am, and we talked about his rap side project Halfrican. Anyhow. They're back, and while I'm not allowed (see what I did there?) to advertise their big return show (it competes with a show of our own), I can tell you that they're also at the Middle East up on Wednesday the 29th, with The Shills and more.

November wraps up on Thursday the 30th with the return of Beat the Meatles, a Beatles tribute night at the Abbey Lounge. You might recall Scamper partaking in these shenanigans last summer; this year brings us returning faves Larry Banilow/Voodoo Screw Machine, Gene Dante & The Future Starlets, The Buckners, and more.

Oh, and if you want, you can vote for us in this here LAST BAND STANDING contest on WFNX. I don't even know what we're trying to win this time, but I suspect that Bon Jovi and Hanson are somehow involved.

Coming in December: Bon Savants finally release their damn album (at the Pill AND the Plan!), and Harris does some Christmasy stuff for the kids.
