The Scene affords you (Ralphio) a peek into what he (Nate) deems to be hip in the Boston and national rock scenes: foxy bands, dope tunes, trendy trends. Get with it.

Time to Put the Earphones On? No!

Somewhere around here I have a musty and yellowing old 1997 copy of Metroland, the Albany area's alterna-weekly-rag, and buried in the ads for upcoming rock shows you'll find a funny little confluence of what would come to be the Boston scene in the mid-aughts.

At the QE2 was Playfair Roland, a very early and rather tepid version of Scamper fronted by Keith and myself; down the street at Bogie's were The Sterlings, members of which would go on to become The Spaceshots and The Charms; and a few miles up I-87 in Saratoga, a

precocious little sprite named Brett Rosenberg was rocking a 16+ acoustic show at Cafe Lena.

Why the hell am I talking about this? I don't know. But Boston is about to lose one of the good ones when said Rosenberg ups and moves to Nashville this coming April. I'll let The Globe do the talking if you want the Behind the Music balderdash, but you should know that BR will be holding down a farewell residency at Toad every Thursday in February; if you don't go to at least one of them, you have no soul and you no respecty the sound.

Select February shows of note:

Coming in the next edition: Rumblings about the first post-Scamper WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble! At... Harper's Ferry?
